Iron Horse Bicycle Classic
Location: Durango to Silverton
The Iron Horse Bicycle Classic takes place over Memorial Day weekend each year, with the signature race pitting cyclists against the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad's steam train along the historic 47-mile route to Silverton, summiting both Molas Pass and Coal Bank Pass. It's one of the region's biggest annual events and a major driver of multi-night lodging demand.
Beyond the headline race, the weekend includes mountain bike and gravel competitions plus a full slate of biking-centered events around Durango, drawing thousands of cyclists, families, and spectators across all three days. Member properties should plan staffing and inventory well in advance — rooms in town regularly sell out weeks ahead of the event.
